About Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization

The Kenyan Government created the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization to overhaul the National Agricultural Research Systems as part of the implementation of the second medium-term plan (KALRO). Its establishment aims to restructure livestock and agricultural research into a vibrant, cutting-edge, adaptable, and well-coordinated system driven by a shared vision and objective.

The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Act of 2013 established KALRO as a corporate body with the goal of establishing an appropriate institutional and legal framework for the coordination of agricultural research in Kenya.

Job Title: Research Technician (16 Positions)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collecting, recording and compiling research data;
  • Ensuring the safety of raw data collected;
  • Maintaining research facilities, trials and sites;
  • Sampling and accurately recording data;
  • Administering research questionnaires;
  • Maintaining scientific research tools;
  • Maintaining and monitoring health of research animals and crops;
  • Preparing field trial sites;

  • Carrying out specialized laboratory analysis by following approved methodologies;

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine schedule maintenance works and ensure the systems run continuously and effectively;
  • Diagnose break down of plant and equipment to detect faults and devise appropriate repair mechanism;
  • Repair breakdown of infrastructure, plant and equipment by fitting in spare parts to minimize the down time of plant and equipment wear and tear;
  • Train equipment users in proper operation and use of equipment to ensure optimal output is achieved by the users and minimize incidences of breakdown arising from misuse;
  • Participate in equipment specification preparation and tender evaluation to verify compliance of order and to select the lowest evaluated bidder;
  • Control maintenance tools and equipment to ensure the tools are in good condition and prevent any losses;
  • Carry out quality inspection on jobs and services to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: -Electrical,
